Our take

Turtles and tortoises need calcium for their shells, and a floating calcium block lets them take it when they feel the need, the way cuttlebone works for birds. The rough surface also helps wear down an overgrown beak and gives a bored turtle something to chew instead of the tank decor. It floats in an aquatic setup or sits in a tortoise enclosure. It is a supplement to a calcium-correct diet and proper UVB, not a substitute for either.
