Our take
Honest caveat first: a healthy indoor bird with no contact with wild birds rarely gets mites, and 'my bird is itchy' is far more often dry skin, moulting or boredom-plucking than parasites. But birds from a crowded shop, an aviary or near wild birds can carry lice or mites, and this is the standard over-the-counter spray for it. If you actually see parasites or your vet confirms them, treat the bird and the cage together. If you are just guessing, see a vet before dousing your bird in insecticide.
