Our take
Cuttlebone is the oldest trick in the bird-keeping book, and it still works: a natural block of calcium carbonate the bird chews when it feels the need. It matters most for small birds on seed diets and for females in lay, who burn through calcium making eggs and can end up egg-bound without enough. It doubles as beak conditioning. It is not the most absorbable form of calcium, so a bird on a good pellet diet may barely touch it, but at this price there is no reason not to offer one.
