Guinea pigs must get vitamin C every day or they develop scurvy, and while a good fortified pellet supplies it, the vitamin degrades in the bag and a sick pig that stops eating gets none at all. A hay-based vitamin C tablet is a reliable top-up: give one a day, especially valuable for a fussy eater, an ill pig or during a bag's final weeks. It is hay-based so most pigs take it as a treat. Fresh veg high in C, like peppers, helps too. Never rely on vitamin drops in the water bottle, they degrade fast and put pigs off drinking.
