Our take
Insect-eating reptiles need insects, and keeping live crickets, the smell, the escapes, the chirping at 3am, puts a lot of people off. Canned crickets are cooked in the tin to stay soft and shelf-stable, so you can keep a can in the cupboard and tong-feed them.
