Our take
Bettas are the fish most often fed wrong: a pinch of tropical flake made for a whole community, most of which fouls the water in their small tank. A proper betta pellet is sized for their mouth, floats so it suits their surface feeding, and is formulated for a mostly-carnivorous fish. Feed just a few pellets once or twice a day, a betta's stomach is the size of its eye, and skip a day now and then. Overfeeding is the number one betta killer.
